If we look at across all the functional services w/in the Business Intelligence (BI) set of assets (see below), we may want to identify opportunities to abstract logic (esp. where it is fairly complex and/or dynamic). There is an area where we can apply a rules-engine (down the line) to provide an order of magnitude more agility and significantly reduce ongoing maintenance. Rules engines have been used heavily in other companies throughout the supply chain and it has proven reliable and scalable. Another application of rules is when incorporating policies and compliance around the access, manipulation and distribution of data (from fact data through information and answers).
